If you’re a runner, walker, fitness enthusiast, or just someone that enjoys staying active and having fun then by now there is a good chance you are already scoping out fun events you can get into in 2017! In fact, it is likely you’ve already registered for an event or two by now, but there is one race that is so good, so much fun, and so exciting that you must not miss. Make plans now to join me at the Blue Ridge Marathon series because this is one event YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS! The beauty of this one is they have something for everyone. Yes, that’s right – it’s not a one size fits all, but rather there is a size just perfect for you – whether you are a walker, a runner or just simply new to getting active!
For starters this race is in the mountains so we are talking about a race at a whole new level – – after all it’s not every day you run mountains, is it?!?! (Make sure you follow me to learn about how I plan to tackle these mountains for the second time.)
This race is schedule for April 22, 2017, which is actually the perfect time of the year because it is not too cold or too hot and the scenery is sure to be pleasing to the eye.This past April was the first time I experienced the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Half Marathon and one could say it was “love at first sight”. The entire experience was incredible – the course, the volunteers, the spectators, the weather, and the other participants. I personally found everything from registration, to packet pickup, to race day extraordinaire to be highly organized, which is a big, plus – especially being an out-of-towner. (There is nothing worse than feeling rushed, lost, or unorganized come race day / weekend). At the time, I signed up for this race I would not have classified myself as an athlete or even a strong runner although I had already ran several 5k’s, 10k’s, and this particular Half Marathon would be my 3rd Half Marathon, but to keep it real – I am one of those people that uses the Galloway run / walk method. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous about getting myself in over my head, but what I discovered about myself is that I am stronger than I realized and capable of far more than I ever knew. I think that was the most important take for me with this race – I learned so much more about myself and I learned to love and accept my flaws and all. Even though I am still not the fastest, and I still use the Galloway method I now classify myself as an athlete. I did the Star 10K in 2015 and the half this year, and I want to do the full! I’ve been on the fence about signing up for 2017 since I’ve only done one full marathon. I use the Galloway method too, which is really helpful for this race especially with all the elevation changes! Thanks for your blog and I just might have to take advantage of that discount code… 🙂

I am currently signed up for the half, but I have been thinking about possibly upgrading to the full. I have so much already planned though so I may just go with the half marathon.
